Tell us a little about yourself and your business.
I have been an artist of all sorts most of my life and luckily have had the foundation from my supportive husband and amazing daughter to create and have that freedom. My newborn portraiture business has always been a joy and I just started LoveGivesWings™ which supports a local resource for pregnant women. I still get to do what I love but it benefits other mothers too. I started Crown(ed) because I saw a void in the market and a year later the business is still going strong. I love that it allows me to work with my hands as well as my heart.

How long have you been in business and what inspired you to start?
I have been a portrait artist officially since 2008 but have been studying photograph for most of my life. My husband wanted me to do something I loved and suggested I get a brand new camera… it began there.

What do you like the most about your job?
I get to work with the most amazing miraculous beings. I get to love on them for a short time, make pretty portraits that showcase their brand newness and the hand them back to their mamas.

How do you come up with inspirations for new ideas?
Oh everywhere, being in nature with fresh air usually sparks a few, magazines, my daughter … window shopping and treasure hunting.

How do you balance your business and family life?
It’s very hard. I had to take a break for a few months because I was getting sick from not taking care of myself. I still don’t have it perfect, but I make time for green smoothies now and yoga… and the park with my babe. Some weeks are harder than others. I am a perfectionist and will probably always struggle with this. Making set hours for work helps me a lot.

Anything you would like to add?
A note to new photographers entering the field… study, go to workshops, practice. Perfect you original art and THEN sell it.  People will respect you for it and will also pay you enough to make a living. Don’t rush into the rest of your life.

Thank you so much Meg! x
