Tiffany is such a beautiful lady inside and out and I am so excited to share her work with you! Make sure you have joined the newsletter so you don’t miss out on more photographer interviews and studio tours to come! Let’s take a peak into the life of photographer Tiffany…
Where do you live? Kennewick ,WA
Tell us a bit about how you began your journey into photography. How long have you had your photography business?
Where to begin! I was given my first camera for Christmas when I was 5 years old. Literally ever since I have been obsessed. Every bit of money I had back then went to film and to getting them developed. I love pictures so much! They tell SUCH a story! Even though we all have our memories…. it’s those pictures that bring it all back to life. Pictures are my everything!
Describe your photography style. What invaluable lessons have you learned that helped you develop your distinct style?
I love vintage, dreamy, white, lacy, and farm house like. Thats about it! My style doesn’t come out all the time but most of the time it does. A lesson that I have learned is that don’t compare yourself to others. I can remember countless nights I would lay awake in bed scrolling through Facebook just beating myself up. One day I just had enough so I just quit. I love my style and I love how how do things.
Are you formally taught or self taught? What has been the best form of education you have taken (workshop, mentor, online classes etc) if any?
Totally self taught. With the help of some very dear photographer friends who have helped me. Lots of late night reading and studying. I would still love to do a mentoring class though.
What is your favourite photography genre to photograph (newborn, maternity, family, weddings etc)? Newborns all the way! Those sweet angels bring a little piece of heaven every time they come! After my 3rd child I was forced to tie my tubes and I was devastated. I wanted more kids so bad! So these sweet babies help the void my heart feels.
If you photograph newborns what is your favourite technique to get them to settle and sleep?
The mom and the bink! That’s it. No tricks really. Every baby is different. SO I really have no tricks. Just the mom and the bink!
Natural available light or studio lighting? Studio or on location sessions?
Studio lighting. I have a home based studio and we built a room just for my studio. It doesn’t have the best lighting so I had to go studio. I love both though!
Nikon or Canon, other? Favorite lens?
Canon! 50mm 1.4 is always on my camera.
How do you find the balance between work and your personal life?
Don’t let any client run your life…… and don’t be afraid to say NO! I was never getting sleep, running around trying not make anyone upset and trying to everything to keep my clients happy. One day I broke and I had to stop. My family is my TOP #1 priority. No one will come above that. Once I started myself on a schedule I made sure that I followed it and not to make changes for someone. Of course things happen but I stick to it. I am a mother and wife and this is something I LOVE to do that brings me joy. Now I do a session a week. NO MORE THEN THAT! I make sure not to book more then 3-4 a month. It’s too much for me. Gosh my life is seriously so easy with making that schedule. Some weeks I don’t have any and that’s even more fun too! I took the pressure off and now I am back to enjoying it.
If you had one piece of advice to give on how to co-ordinate and choose your props for a session, what would it be?
You don’t have to have every prop out there. I mean, I have a lot of props and I love prop shopping but it can be too much. Just the baby itself is beautiful.
What is your favourite Baby Joy Studios Product?
The wraps!!!!!!
What photographers do you admire and inspire you?
Oh wow! Soooooo many! Too many to list. Here’s just a few: Meg Bitton, Carly Kay Photography and Keri Meyers.
When you are not working, how do you love to spend your days? Hobbies, family, travel etc?
I am with my family all the time! I have 3 seriously amazing beautiful kids: Paige 8, Ty 7 and Stockton 4. Life is busy and soooooo awesome! I am also a very devote Mormon and am very busy with church. I just love the gospel so much! I also LOVE antiques and paint, shop and love to decorate my home.
